This is an introductory course designed for individuals with little or no previous knowledge of food safety management systems. The course will cover the basics of ISO 22000:2005.

Food Safety Management System

No organisation can afford to ignore its legal obligations with regard to food safety. Implicit in the successful management of food safety is the development of an effective management system. This internationally recognised standard aims to harmonise the requirements for food safety management throughout the food supply chain.

Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager

Food quality assurance managers are responsible for managing quality and safety standards of food products and food manufacturing. An undergraduate degree in food science, or a graduate degree plus relevant experience is typical for entering this field. Food quality assurance managers must be knowledge about quality standards, government regulations for the food industry, safety procedures, and managerial tactics.

Food Technologist

​

Food technologists plan the manufacture of food and drink products and can work in a wide range of settings, including kitchens, factories, laboratories and offices. Consequently, specific responsibilities vary greatly but may include:

  • generating new product ideas and recipes

  • modifying and improving existing recipes

  • designing processes and machinery for the production of recipes on a large scale

  • liaising with marketing staff

  • ensuring that strict hygiene food safety standards are met

  • identifying and choosing products from suppliers

  • monitoring the use of additives

  • testing and examining samples

  • writing reports
